The Nigerian Police (NPF) has promoted 17 officers and men serving under Zone 16 of the force in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony of the newly promoted Policemen, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 16, Johnson Adenola, noted that the promotion of the officers came with a lot of responsibilities, stressing that they should completely abstain from any act capable of dragging the image of the Nigerian Police Force in the mud.
AIG Johnson Adenola further said that the promotion is in line with the directive given by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reward those that have served diligently over the years, enjoining them to discharge their statutory duties by being cautious, respectful and disciplined while dealing with members of the general public.
He also charged them to be good ambassadors of the force and equally ensure that they are agents of genuine change at their respective posts, noting that the relentless pursuit of a worthy image of the police force should be their watchwords.
In the same vein, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Zone 16, SP Guun Emonena, said the police officers were promoted from the rank of Inspectors to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) based primarily on the recommendation and interview conducted ahead of the promotion exercise, emphasizing that the task of the image making of the police force does not rest solely on the PPRO alone but also on all officers and men of the force.
According to him, this can only be attained by maintaining worthy conducts and reputation that would erase the erroneous perception that had pervaded the Nigerian Police Force in the past.
Responding on behalf of the newly promoted officers, ASP Eke Kalu promised they would reciprocate the promotion by adhering strictly to the code of conduct of the Nigerian Police Force, expressing appreciation to AIG Johnson Adenola for the recommendation and eventual decoration exercise.
